Grass Lake Hardware: New Owners, Same Heart — A Local Shop Gets a Warm Welcome

Michigan Media House partnered with the Grass Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce to capture the ribbon cutting ceremony at Grass Lake Hardware, welcoming the new owners, Jim and Diane Byrum, to the local business scene.

After more than 40 years in the hardware industry and seven other locations across Michigan, Jim and Diane chose Grass Lake for store number eight—and it’s already proving to be something special.

“We’ve never experienced a welcome like this,” Jim shared. “The community’s been overwhelmingly kind—from customers to other businesses. It’s been a great start.”

The event wasn’t just about giant scissors and smiles (though there were plenty). It was a celebration of what makes small towns thrive: local owners who care, neighbors who support one another, and places where you can find the right bolt and a good conversation in the same aisle.

The Byrums’ approach to business is straightforward but rock-solid:

“You need great staff, the right inventory, and to get people in and out the door efficiently.”

And based on the energy at the ribbon cutting—and the steady flow of customers since—Grass Lake Hardware is off to a strong start.

If you haven’t popped in yet, this is your nudge. Whether you’re tackling a home project, replacing that thing you swore you just bought last week, or just want to check out the new space… Jim says “tours are free.”
